Major technical equipment of China laying a solid national defense foundation
A series of major technical equipment of China developed and produced by CASIC emboldens all Chinese people and ensures peace for development, including Chinese missiles debuted at the military parade in the 35th anniversary of the founding of the PRC in 1984, new ground-launched cruise missiles debuted at the military parade in the 60th anniversary of the founding of the PRC in 2009, China’s missile equipment with the unprecedented scales debuted at the military parade in the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Anti-Japanese War in 2015, and the missile equipment ready for combat debuted in the Zhurihe military training base at the Zhurihe military parade for the celebration of the 90th anniversary of PLA in 2017 for solemnly accepting the review of the Party and the people. A series of equipment has constituted a more complete offensive and defensive equipment system, thoroughly demonstrating CASIC’s determination and ability to safeguard national sovereignty and security.
After years of development, CASIC has established a complete technology R&D and production system for air defense missile weapon system, aerodynamic missile weapon system, ballistic missile weapon system and space technology products for China’s national defense cause. Its weapons and equipment are advanced in China, and its technologies in some disciplines are internationally advanced. It has provided dozens of advanced missile weapons for the troops, which has greatly enhanced China's national defense strength and has defended our territory, airspace, and waters.

In recent years, all equipment of CASIC performed well in the strategic battle drill for the whole army and the international military competitions, and CASI has enjoyed a better international reputation. The star missile FD-2000, China's new-generation air defense weapon debuted at the 2012 Zhuhai Airshow attracted a lot of visitors, and was high praised by them. CASIC attended the 2018 Zhuhai Airshow with seven equipment systems (i.e., air defense system, coastal defense system, air-to-ground strike system, unmanned combat system, early warning surveillance security system, commercial aerospace system as well as command communication and assistance support system) to comprehensively demonstrate its development achievements in the construction of the offensive and defensive equipment system.
In the report of the 19th CPC National Congress, President Xi demanded to construct a modern combat system with Chinese characteristics, strengthening our armies by using the route with Chinese characteristics and modernize the national defense and armies on all aspects.
Facing the requirements in battle-oriented, innovation-driven and system building-oriented military and national defense construction, Gao Hongwei, the Chairman and Secretary of Party Committee of CASIC, said that CASIC will thoroughly implement Xi's idea on strengthening the PLA, focus on “battle capability and winning battles”, fully advance the building of model-driven, data-driven and process-driven digital scientific research and production system, further improve the systemaltization, intelligentization, practical battle capability and quality reliability of missile weapons, and spare no efforts in providing equipment and technical assurance for the equipment systemaltization, system intelligentization, and intelligent battle in the field of national defense.
Innovative strength supporting major technical equipment of China
Xi pointed out that major scientific and technological innovation achievements are the important instruments and sharp weapons of a nation, must be held in our own hands, and must rely on self-reliance and independent innovation. Under the historical conditions such as relatively weak basic industry capacities and relatively low scientific levels, China's aerospace industry has gradually explored a development path from imitation and modification to independent design and independent innovation. Aerospace research workers know that core technologies can't be bought with money or can't be acquired easily, and we have to carry out independent innovation and master core technologies to gain the status and the right of speech.
Based on 62 years of experience accumulation in the aerospace industry and 19 years of practice, CASIC has always been strong-willed in prioritizing successful completion of the mission to manufacture aerospace defense equipment, has promoted the initiative spirit of China's aerospace industry, has achieved a number of major world-class scientific and technological innovation achievements in the field of aerospace defense, has mastered a number of key and core technologies, and has fulfilled a series of breakthroughs from zero in the development history of model equipment.
We have successively won the first place in the history of equipment development of China in disclosable fields, witnessing the glorious course of independent innovation of CASIC, including the first-generation ground-to-air missiles, Hongqi-1 and Hongqi-2, attacking the high-altitude reconnaissance aircrafts invading into China’s airspace, filling the gap of submarine-to-ground nuclear missile weapons for Chinese Navy, filling the gap of the second-generation ground-to-air missiles for our army, Yingji-8 missiles of the first generation of Linglong series debuted at the Paris Airshow causing world sensation, China’s first ballistic missile weapon system for mobile launching of solid missiles, China’s first ground-launched cruise missile weapon system, and China’s first mid-high-attitude and medium-long-range air defense missile weapon system.
What is more worthy of pride is as follows: in recent years, CASIC, as a leader, has won 5 Special Prizes in the National Award for Science and Technology Progress, and has ranked top among central enterprises; as of January 2018, CASIC has obtained 19,000 valid patents, including 11,000 invention patents.
The fruits of innovation are generated from ample innovation investments and cultivation. CASIC has actively implemented the innovation-driven development strategy, has seized the historical opportunities brought by the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, has focused on innovation in “Five New Generations” (new-generation weapon and equipment technologies and application, new-generation aerospace launching technologies and application, new-generation autonomous and controllable information technologies and application, new-generation intelligent manufacturing technologies and application, and new-generation materials and process technologies and application) and “Four Basic Technologies” (basic technologies for microsystem, basic technologies for autonomous and controllable information security, basic technologies for intelligent manufacturing and basic technologies for smart industry), has promoted the wide application of structure and function integration, system and subsystem integration and mutual penetration of software and hardware, and microsystem technologies, has implemented 29 projects concerning technical innovation, business mode innovation and management innovation in key fields, has established 17 special zones concerning technical innovation, business mode innovation and management innovation, has fostered over 1,000 internal entrepreneurship teams, and has created 28 national science and technology innovation platforms, 115 provincial and ministerial-level science and technology innovation platforms, and 143 company-wide innovation platforms.
Gao said that CASIC will actively respond to "strengthening strategic technology strength” proposed by General Secretary Xi Jinping in the report of the 19th CPC National Congress, and accelerate the research on the professional technology systems and strategies for future development, the development of cutting-edge technologies, and the nurturing and growing of new modes, new industries, new formats and new impetus on the basis of consolidating the technology base for “Five New Generations”.
Core concept conveyed by major technical equipment of China
The enterprise value of CASIC is not only reflected in the technical strength, but also in the social responsibility value and the development concept. Over the years, CASIC has constantly conveyed the core concept of “secure peace with aerospace technology”.
At the Zhuhai Airshow in 2006, the slogan of “secure peace with aerospace technology” was placed in the most conspicuous position of the exhibition area of CASIC to novelly and vividly demonstrate its social responsibility values of being committed to the national defense modernization, as well as preservation of peace and benefiting the human kind to the media and the visitors, so as to thoroughly show its strength and corporate image.
At present, the solemn commitment of “secure peace with aerospace technology” has been widely known by the public, and CASIC has fulfilled this commitment with practical actions and achievements. Since its establishment, CASIC has experienced a great change from loss to the total profit exceeding RMB 16 billion in 2017. CASIC’s brand influence has been constantly improved, and has ranked 346th among the world's top 500 enterprises in 2018. Since 2007, CASIC has ranked A for 11 consecutive years in the assessment for operating performance of heads of central enterprises published by SASAC.
In addition, CASIC has been determined to serve the national strategy, the national defense construction and national economy and the people's livelihood, has adhered to the further military-civilian integration, has gradually optimized the industrial structure featuring with "one main body and two wings” (i.e., aerospace defense and information technology and equipment manufacturing) based on the development concept of “generalized defense and extensive security”, has made a series of groundbreaking breakthroughs in information technology and information security, as well as high-end equipment manufacturing, research and development, and has promoted the technological advancement of the industry and has also created good economic and social benefits. In 2017, the military-civilian integration-based industry of CASIC, achieved a year-on-year growth of 12.8% in revenue, and a year-on-year increase of 23.5% in new contracts.
The era inspires forging ahead, and the inspiring era is the right time for striving. Gao said that CASIC will closely unite around the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core, keep in mind its prior duties to strengthen the PLA, prioritize the development of the aerospace defense equipment industry, thoroughly implement the high-quality development requirements, win in key battles to initially build a world-leading aerospace and defense company, start a new journey in developing a world-class enterprise, and make a greater contribution to building the world-class PLA and realizing CPC's goal of strengthening the PLA in the new era.
